HOW OPTICAL PRISMS WORK

HOW OPTICAL PRISMS WORK

We all know that a prism is mainly a transparent object surrounded by two intersecting but not parallel planes, which is used to divide or disperse light beams; The prism can not only shift the light, but also be used to adjust the direction of the image.

So how many kinds of materials is prism processing divided into? In fact, the prism processing materials have many kinds of optical glass, quartz, calcium fluoride, zinc selenide, germanium.

What are the categories of optical prisms? AT Optical  has focused on the production of optical prisms for more than ten years, of which optical prisms product series.

The commonly used optical prisms are divided into right Angle prisms, cubic prisms, Pentagon prisms, Dov (Dowell) prisms, ridge prisms, wedge Angle prisms, rhombic prisms, Paul prisms, corner cones, and half Pentagon prisms.

In modern life, prisms are widely used in digital equipment, science and technology, medical instruments and other fields. Commonly used digital equipment: camera, closed circuit TV, projector, digital camera, digital camcorder, CCD lens and all kinds of optical equipment; Science and technology: telescope, microscope, level, fingerprint, gun sight, solar converter and all kinds of measuring instruments; Medical equipment: cystoscope, gastroscope and all kinds of laser treatment equipment.

Right Angle prism is usually used to bend the optical path or to deflect the image generated by the optical system, choosing different incidence planes can deflect the optical path 90° or 180°, and the imaging inversion is also different. Right Angle prisms can also be used for image combination, beam deflection and other applications.

When the light is incident from the right Angle plane of the prism, the light will be reflected on the prism slope, and out of the other right Angle plane, the beam to achieve 90° reflection.  When the light is incident from the inclined plane of the prism, the light will be fully reflected twice on the right Angle plane, and finally emerge from the inclined plane in the direction parallel to the incident beam, the light path realizes 180° reflection, and the 180° deflection generated at this time is independent of the Angle of light incident. Compared with the ordinary mirror, the right Angle prism has the following advantages: the right Angle prism itself has a large contact area, and has a typical Angle such as 45° and 90°, which is easy to adjust. Better stability against mechanical stress. The principle of the refracted light is total reflection, which is different from the interference principle of the mirror and has relatively low dependence on the coating.
